A Cursive Memory is considered to be alternative rock, indie rock, or pop punk. The band hails from Rancho Palos Verdes, California and was originally called Sincerely Me. The band was formed when in 2003 after Colin and Shaun had met at a birthday party. Sincerely Me was originally a cover band, doing covers of songs for Jimmy Eat World and blink-182. Whenever the band started writing their own music, they changed their name to A Cursive Memory.
A Cursive Memory’s successful musical career began while they were all still in high school. Through much promotion via the local sound circuit, the band caught the attention of Bunim/Murray Productions (The Real World/Road Rules). Success really started to boom when their song Club Revolution Remix was featured on an episode of The Real World.
A Cursive Memory has taken many creative approaches to creating their music videos, which probably has a lot to do with their success. For the video for their song Everything, which you can watch below, they followed around paparazzi for an entire summer catching videos of themselves with celebrities. The Everything music video includes appearances by Britney Spears, Masi Oka, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Hayden Panettiere, Tobey Maguire, Jenna Fischer, Perez Hilton, Hilary Duff, Nick Carter, Dr. Dre, Rick Ross, Alfonso Ribeiro, Criss Angel, Kim Kardashian, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Madonna, David Spade, Aly & AJ, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Jerry Springer, David Archulera, and will.i.am. The video received ridiculous amounts of publicity, rocking out MySpace as The Most Watched Video in One Week, and drawing media attention to the band from Fox News, TMZ.com, E! Online, The N and making the top 10 countdown of MTV’s Total Request Live.
A Cursive Memory used the same concept for their single Perfect Company, but instead of filming celebrities, they filmed themselves with various Alaskan animals. Needless to say, the idea wasn’t quite as popular as the first, but created an enjoyable video none the less.
A Cursive Memory has had the pleasure of touring with a lot of other famous bands and artists, including: The Medic Droid, Saves The Day, HelloGoodbye, Senses Fair, Armor for Sleep, Jimmy Eat World, Set Your Goals, Lydia, and Metro Station. They currently have two albums available for sale, Changes(2008) and Let Love In(2010).
