Can A Person Be Emo Without Being Depressed?

Question posted by samantha rowell: ”i know emo is just a trend and everything but ive been told its a state of mind. cant a person be emo without being depressed?”

Answer: Emo is a shortened version of the word emotion. Whether expressed in music or day to day life, the easy expression of emotions that most people would try to repress is a large part of what being emo is all about. That doesn’t, however, limit emotional expression to negative feelings only.

We all know that emos have a very bad wrap for generally being depressed people. This has stemmed from a lot of things, most notably the trend of cutting. There were also quite a few drama queens and kings out there that helped this negative stigma along.

That was all mostly in the beginning of emo culture though. I can safely say that there are very few emos that I met when emo first became a trend that weren’t depressed or had their emotions completely out of tow. Luckily, more stable people started jumping on the bus due to the love of the music and fashion style and quickly helped to start curbing the negative stereotypes.

I’m not going to say that there are no emos who are depressed. That would be a flat out lie. The culture was built on the display of mostly negative emotions and very close to gothic attire. What has evolved out of it though through the passing years is almost a completely different monster.

Cutting is far less of a trend. You don’t have to dye your hair black to be considered emo anymore. Depression has been replaced by hyper randomness. And colorful clothing and accessories is far more favorable than sticking to the original trend of all black.

Emos now a days typically convey a full range of normal healthy emotions. In fact, I’ve met quite a few that are more upbeat and happy than most people that I know. So the answer to the question is no. You don’t have to be depressed to be emo.

Get Your Music Fix with This Huge List of Emo Bands

Merry Christmas guys!

For my Christmas gift to the site, I’m posting the giant list of emo bands that I had been posting one alphabetical letter at a time. I actually finished organizing the list about two weeks ago when I joined up with iMesh to download some new music for my MP3 Player. Having said that, this list has been updated from the original list that ended up getting deleted when the site went down. New bands have been added over the course of the last few months.

This list will be continually updated as new bands are discovered. To help the list grow, you can suggest a new band in the comments section or join our forum and post a YouTube video of the band that you want to recommend under the music section. You can join the forum by Clicking Here and Registering.

How updating this list works

When you suggest a new band, I will review them via YouTube. If I can make an instant determination that the band falls within the emo genre, they will be added to this master list immediately, no questions asked. If I can’t make a clear decision, I will post a poll asking the opinions of Emo Rawr’s readers and subscribers. Since patience isn’t one of my virtues, I will only wait until 10 votes have been cast as to whether or not the readers consider the band to fall under the emo genre. If the majority of the 10 say yes then the band will be added to the master list and the poll will be closed for voting and removed from the site. If the majority vote is no, then the band will not be added to the list.

Sometimes you might find a band on the list that you don’t particularly consider to be emo. Some bands have already been removed from the list. I must be honest and tell you that I haven’t reviewed every single band on the list, though I will eventually get to listening to all of them. If you see a band on the list that you don’t think should be there, please post your thoughts in the comment area. I will review the band and make a decision. If I can’t make a clear cut decision, then I will create a poll and let the readers decide. If you suggest that an emo band be removed that is obviously an emo band, for instance a band like Hawthorne Heights or My Chemical Romance, your suggestion will be ignored. Sorry, but if the majority of emos that I know listen to the band, then they are staying on the list.

As with the previously posted list, I will be creating a page on this site for each individual band. Once the band’s page has been created, I will link the band’s name to their page so that you can easily navigate to it to check out pictures of the band, a short band bio, and samples of their music. It’s an easy way to expand your musical horizons without having to leave the site.

The last time I posted this list it was frequently stolen and used on other websites without authorization. If you plan to post this list on your website or blog, please link back to this page or at least to the site url http://emorawr.com It took me a long time to organize this list and it is an ongoing effort to keep it updated. Please give credit where it is due.

Having said that, here is the improved list. This is the biggest list of emo bands you will probably ever find.

Huge List of Emo Bands

Video of Emo Boys Kissing

Alright, so today’s treat is a video of yummy emo boys kissing. It’s actually a video that I hadn’t seen before today. *gasp* lol My only complaint is that most of the videos are kind of blurry. In fact, I think there are only 2 that have a crisp picture. Having said that, it still got my day off to a good start. lol

Don’t worry guys, I do plan on putting up videos of emo girls and emo girls kissing. You’re just going to have to wait for it.

9 Pictures of Hot Emo Girls

One of the readers on this site recently emailed me and told me she would like to see pictures of emo girls on here. I had honestly forgotten that I hadn’t posted any since the site got deleted and had to be rebuilt. I was so focused on getting the traffic back up to par that I completely ignored the fact that girls aren’t the only people who come to this site. I greatly apologize. The next few picture posts will focus on emo girls. So, now that I’m finished rambling, here are the goods.

100 Pictures of Jared Leto

You guys have nagged me to the core for it, so I’m bringing it back and doing it a ton better than I did last time. Here for your drooling pleasure, 100 Pictures of Jared Leto, accomplished actor and lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars. He is very yummilicious. I could have just posted pictures of his emo look, but I decided to add quite a few of his alternate looks. This guy is a friggin’ camelion. He’s reinvented his look countless times, and I must say that most of them have come out pretty good.

Jared Joseph Leto was born on December 26th of 1971. Awww, a Christmas baby. << . . . You could wrap that up and stick it underneath my tree. Anyways, back on topic . . . I must be in a pervy mood today.

Jared Leto has had a long and successful career. He started out acting on the hit tv series My So Called Life and went on to have rolls in many movies including: Panic Room (he has horrible hair in this movie), Alexander (playing Alexander’s bestie with benefits), Requiem for a Dream (one of my personal favorites of his), and quite a few others that I’m too lazy to list.

He’s also lead singer of the popular emo band 30 Seconds to Mars, hence how he got his own page on this site. :-p 30 Seconds to Mars will get their own page on the site later on. So, now that you know the basics, let’s take a little poll and then get to the good stuff. Enjoy the pics!
