Am I Emo? Take The Emo Test to Find Out

Do people at school call you emo? Are you rejecting the term because you either refuse to be considered as emo or simply don’t know what it is? Take this quick test below to find out if you’re emo. Simply answer ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ to the questions below and then tally up your score.

1.) Do people at your school call you emo?

2.) Do you have a side swooping bang?

3.) Do you hang out with other people that are considered to be emo?

4.) Do you listen to bands like My Chemical Romance, Panic! At the Disco, or Hawthorn Heights? (this list could totally be expanded, and as soon as I finish the giant list of bands I’ll post a link to it here. For the sake of brevity though, these are 3 of the most commonly known emo bands)

5.) Do you wear tight fitting clothing?

6.) Do you like to write poetry?

If you answered Yes to at least 4 of these questions, then you are emo. If that bothers you then sadly you need to change the above things about you to start moving in a different direction, and trust me, trying to change yourself absolutely sucks.

If changing yourself sounds like a complete drag, then just accept that people consider you to be an emo and move on. People like to label things/people, it’s a fact of life. I know that many people shun the label of emo, but it’s really not that bad.

For people that hate labeling, it can be annoying to be called anything, but you can’t change labels or what comes out of other people’s mouths, you can only change yourself. I personally think that you’d be much better off accepting that fact and moving on. Learn not to care what other people think. If they’re not your friends or family then what they think and say shouldn’t matter. That’s the emo thing to do. ;-)

Is Hot Topic the Only Place to Buy Emo Clothes?

We all know that Hot Topic is the most popular retailer for serving the alternative fashion cultures, but are they the only place that you can find cool emo clothes? The answer is a resounding ‘No.’ There are plenty of other places that you can shop for emo clothes depending on your sense of fashion.

There are definitely a few different types of shoppers when it comes to the emo culture. There are those who are hardcore bare bones shoppers and there are those who can take pretty much any basic style and turn it emo with the right accessories.

For the first type of shopper, Hot Topics is definitely your best bet for great easy to find emo fashion all in one place. They specifically designed emo clothes that is considered ‘trendy’ and will definitely stand you out among the crowd. They carry all of the top brands, including Hello Kitty merchandise, and popular movie apparel. They also carry all of the standard hearts, skulls, patterns, and sparrows that trendy emos typically wear.

For those who would rather go on the down low and approach emo fashion from a less ‘look at me’ style, you can easily shop just about anywhere as long as you have the right hairstyle and accessories. Skinny jeans can be found at many local retailers, such as Old Navy. Many emo girls simply wear tank tops and a lot of emo boys dress it down in plain colored t-shirts and flannels. Nothing flashy there.

Everyone knows that taste is a matter of personal preference. What some people find attractive, others will find not so attractive. This reigns true for most genres, except emos. There seems to be a particular look that drives girls crazy for hot emo guys. So now let’s talk about some of the more common things that make an emo guy hot.

Typical hot emo guys will be skinny. There’s just something about a guy you can wrap your arms around and cuddle that drives emo girls wild. Being thin not only helps with attracting the ladies, but it also seems to suit the style more. Most emo guys prefer to wear tight shirts and skinny jeans, which would look much less appealing on a chubby guy.

Great hair is the second trademark of hot emo guys. This is easily achieved with a straight iron and some styling products. Fringing is a popular trend as well as the swoop over the eyes. Interesting use of hair dye can add a heightened attractiveness if done properly. Main hair color is typically solid black, dark brown, black with random platinum blond highlights, or black with highlights of other various colors gives a nice touch.

Most hot emo girls are skinny. Being skinny is almost part of the style, considering that most emos wear skin tight clothing. A thin body looks good in just about anything, from skinny jeans to a bikini. What emo girl wouldn’t want to show off her rockin’ hot body?

Hot emo girls will usually have an incredible fashion sense. If wearing tight clothes to show of their bodies wasn’t enough, they accessorize incredibly well. From cute shoes, to hoodies, to tank tops, and colorful jewelry, most emo girls know how to dress to impress.

Emo female hairstyles also have a lot to do with sex appeal. There are so many different styles and colors, too many to discuss them all. Some go short and spiked while others go long and layered. The ultimate emo hair accessory for girls with long hair is a big hair bow worn on the side of the head. This adds a cute sense of flirtiness. Hair color typically varies as well, from streaked to totally dyed.

Emos have quite a few fashion trends, from tight clothing to flat ironed hair. From head to toe, you can tell if someone fits the emo genre. We could talk about a lot of things that make someone look emo, but for now let’s talk about the shoes. Historically, shoes have been a girls best friend, next to diamonds. In the emo culture, shoes also help to make the man. The most popular shoe trends amount emos, both male and female, are Converse, Vans, and ballerina slippers or flats.

Converse has been around for a long time. Originally, this style of emo shoe was generously adopted by the punk subculture. The most popular form of this shoe is the Converse All-Star High Top. Most popularly seen in the classic black and white, thanks to the emo subculture, this shoe now comes in a large variety of colors and styles. This was originally the shoe of choice for all emos, both male and female.
